Rocket | ||
My husband and I had
agreed to let Ruby (aged 9) have her first dog, we thought rescue
puppy...she had other ideas. Ruby is my right hand doggie
girl and helps me out with my KG work, she often looks at the website,
I will let her tell you the rest..
I saw 'Mac' on the website and loved him straight away (although I thought it was a rubbish name!) I begged and begged Mum to have him, she begged Dad and we got a 'yes'. We then had to wait and wait and wait, it seemed to be forever until the next trip, I slept with his picture under my pillow and counted the days. At last it came and
Mum came back from the dog run with my Rocket, everyone said he was a
funny thing and the least like a Rocket, I knew he was special and he
would be a Rocket if I showed him how. He slept in my bed and
we became friends.
From quite early on
I knew something was wrong, Rocky kept bumping into things, we took him
to the vets and were told that he was going blind. This made
me and Mum cry, but I was determined to make sure Rocket lived up to
his name and everyday I took him to the park where there is
nothing for him to bump into and he ran and ran in circles...I was
right I knew he could be a Rocket!! He dug a massive hole in
the same spot every day in the park and we pretended it wasn't us!!
Then after
Christmas, Rocket got very poorly he sometimes found it hard to stand
up. We went back to the vets...Rocket's brain had not
developed and he was dying, Mum and me cried so much, sometimes we
found it hard to look at him as it made us so sad.
We made a trip to
the beach and Rocky ran and ran, he was scared of the sea but loved to
run. At the time I didn't know this was going to be his last
happy day.
On January 4th 2007
aged 9 months Rocket died, he was too young and the best dog I could
EVER have it really wasn't fair. I know he is not suffering
but I don't understand why he couldn't have been an old dog.
I got him a stone to put on his grave in the garden...'This rock of
love stands firm and strong, as does my love for you
belong', I sleep with his collar under my
pillow. There is a song by Queen called 'you're my best
friend' that always reminds me of Rocket. The hole
in the park he dug has all gone away now. Rocket was my
forever dog.
Please adopt a greyhound
from KG, they deserve to be loved like Rocket was.
